Lessons from global energy crisis

A 2 min.read !

It is still a wonder as to how nations did not plan enough in advance to meet the pro rata emission targets set for 2030 when the “Paris Agreement” was made as early as 6 years ago.It is indisputable that the early industrialised nations have an onerous task in mitigating the climate woes by taking the lead role in mobilising money, men, machinery and material needed along with sharing of expertise and experience. But this should not be a deterrent for others to adopt a ‘wait and watch’ policy as they would be the victims for catastrophic consequences in the event of an ill planned agenda.

India has made some great strides on the renewable energy front and much needs to be done by others too.Whichever is the nation, needed thrust on awareness on conserving power by the citizens needs to be given utmost preference as governments and funds alone can not do total justice to such mega scale missions. Asking the citizens to be discretionary in usage, ordering factories to be shut with power outages, imposing ration etc in the eleventh hour may in fact aggravate the crisis. At least it should start now with a great rigour and vigour.Imagine what would have been the gains for nations besides the planet on multiple fronts had there been a better and need based usage preventing misuse or wastage of power

Out of the preferred target of 1.5 degree C rise in global warming set by the Convention,1.1 degree C has already been reached. Nations can not afford to ignore the impending danger.Accelerated measures with well planned projections of demand supply scenario with needed preparations and augmenting the production from alternate sources such as nuclear and renewables are the urgent need of the hour !
